Alan Wilson

Alan Wilson, the Attorney General of South Carolina, has faced several allegations and investigations throughout his career. In 2013, Wilson self-reported that his campaign failed to disclose 84 contributions and expenditures; he faced no penalties after re-filing. In 2012, he made unsubstantiated claims regarding "zombie voters" in South Carolina, which an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division found no evidence to support. During the 2010s, Wilson was involved in the "ProbeGate" corruption investigation. After recusing himself due to conflicts of interest, he attempted to fire the special prosecutor, David Pascoe, in 2016. The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled against Wilson, upholding Pascoe's authority. In 2025, the South Carolina State Ethics Commission opened investigations into multiple complaints regarding Wilson. These complaints allege misuse of campaign funds for a 50th birthday party, potential "pay to play" schemes, solicitation of staff for campaign resources, and campaign finance reporting errors. Wilson’s campaign has characterized these complaints as frivolous and expects them to be resolved. Previously, a whistleblower’s 2024 allegations of fiscal mismanagement in his office were investigated by a Senate Oversight Committee, which found no illegal activity.
