Barry Moore

Barry Moore has faced several controversies and allegations during his political career, though he has not been convicted of any crimes. In April 2014, Moore was indicted on two counts of felony perjury and two counts of giving false statements to a grand jury investigating Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard. Prosecutors alleged Moore lied about threatening a primary opponent to drop out of a race. Moore was acquitted of all charges by a Lee County jury in October 2014. Between 2011 and 2012, Moore’s company received over $64,000 in state contracts, and he was involved in a 2012 home sale to a corporation for approximately $200,000 above market value. Additionally, he faced scrutiny for sponsoring 2012 legislation that would have financially benefited his private solid waste business. More recently, Moore has faced criticism and political attacks regarding the accuracy of his military service record, specifically regarding his rank and use of the term veteran, which his campaign has defended as accurate and based on his honorable discharge.
