Bu Laia Hill

Shawn Kaui Hill, known as Bu Laia, has faced several legal controversies throughout his career: In 1994, his bid for governor was blocked because he was two years under the legal age requirement; he had used his brother's driver's license to file nomination papers. He was arrested for skateboarding at Honolulu International Airport in 1996 and for allegedly damaging a vending machine in 1998. In 2004, Hill was acquitted of abusing his wife and later acquitted of assault and terroristic threatening charges related to a 2003 confrontation with animal control officers. In October 2004, he pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and two counts of harassment following a 2004 incident at a Hilo store, receiving one year of probation and 100 hours of community service.
