Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party in Ghana. He currently faces two major legal proceedings. In May 2026, he was charged at the Accra High Court with defrauding by false pretence, uttering a forged document, money laundering, and intentionally causing a GH₵30 million financial loss to the Ghana EXIM Bank. The state alleges he obtained a loan for a non-existent farming project in 2018 and submitted a falsified receipt to secure funds. He has pleaded not guilty. Separately, Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining, are on trial for alleged illegal mining offenses. Charges include assigning mineral rights without ministerial approval and facilitating unlicensed mining at Samreboi and the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve. A judge rejected his no-case submission in March 2026, ordering him to open a defense. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges and remains on bail.
