Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has been convicted of illegal mining and currently faces additional criminal prosecutions.
In July 2026, he was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment for assigning mineral rights without ministerial approval and facilitating unlicensed mining in the Samreboi Forest Reserve. He was also fined 10,000 penalty units for each of the two counts.
He currently faces two additional pending criminal cases:
- Illegal mining in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.
- An alleged GH¢30 million EXIM Bank fraud involving charges of defrauding by false pretences, forgery, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. Plea negotiations are ongoing in the fraud case.
