In March 2020, an unsuccessful primary opponent filed an election complaint with the North Carolina State Board of Elections against a non-profit organization that had produced advertisements supporting Miller’s campaign. The complaint alleged the group acted as a sham organization to funnel dark money into the race. Miller stated he had no connection to the group or knowledge of its operations, and the complaint did not allege any personal misconduct by Miller or his campaign. The organization dismissed the complaint as frivolous and baseless.
