Chen Ou-po, a former Taiwanese legislator, has been involved in multiple legal scandals related to corruption and financial misconduct. In August 2025, he was indicted by Taipei prosecutors on charges of corruption and embezzlement, with prosecutors seeking a combined sentence of 24 years and two months (Focus Taiwan, 2025). The charges included accepting bribes from companies such as United Logistics International and engaging in illegal activities like inflating salaries of his aides to siphon public funds, resulting in illicit gains exceeding NT$4.11 million (Focus Taiwan, 2026). In April 2026, Chen Ou-po was convicted and sentenced to 16 years in prison by the Taipei District Court for corruption and embezzlement, with the court noting that he sought illegal profits and undermined public ethics. His wife, Hsu Hui-yu, was also convicted of similar charges and received a sentence of four years and six months. The court found that Chen had accepted bribes, including a NT$500,000 payoff disguised as a donation, and had inflated the salaries of his public assistants to divert public funds (CNA, 2026; 聯合新聞網, 2026). Following his conviction, Chen Ou-po voluntarily resigned from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and was subsequently expelled by the party’s integrity committee. The party also announced investigations into other members for similar misconduct (聯合新聞網, 2026). As of May 2026, Chen Ou-po's legal cases are ongoing, but he has been formally convicted and sentenced, with the possibility of appeal.
