Former Democratic Progressive Party lawmaker Chen Ou-po served in the legislature from 2012 to 2024. In August 2025, he was indicted on charges of corruption, embezzlement, and money laundering. On April 14, 2026, the Taipei District Court sentenced him to 16 years in prison and six years of deprivation of civil rights for accepting bribes and fraudulently claiming assistant subsidies. The court found Chen guilty of the following offenses: Accepting bribes from United Logistics International Co. between 2016 and 2023, totaling NT$4.13 million, in exchange for using his legislative position to influence port-related legislation and fee structures. Accepting a NT$500,000 bribe in 2018 from the Rentcar Quality Assurance Association to pressure the government to suspend regulations affecting the taxi and transport industry, which he disguised as a charitable donation. Fraudulently inflating the salaries of publicly funded legislative assistants between 2012 and 2022, totaling NT$4.11 million, for personal and office use. Chen’s wife, Hsu Hui-yu, was sentenced to four years and six months for her involvement in the assistant salary fraud and for embezzling NT$1.1 million from the Taiwan Chin Yilan Development Association. Chen denied the bribery charges but admitted to the salary fraud. The ruling can be appealed.
