Chris Cournoyer

Chris Cournoyer is the 48th Lieutenant Governor of Iowa, having previously served as an Iowa State Senator from 2019 to 2024. In December 2024, Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane filed a sworn ethics complaint against Cournoyer alleging harassment, improper disclosure of confidential information, and misuse of that information for personal or political purposes. The complaint involved Cournoyer’s handling of an unauthorized investigation report regarding the Sheriff’s wife, provided by a terminated sergeant, Josh Wall. The Iowa Senate Ethics Committee rejected the complaint on procedural grounds because it was filed the same day Cournoyer assumed her current office. Additionally, in 2018, while serving as Pleasant Valley School Board President, Cournoyer faced controversy for including a pledge to advocate for Second Amendment political causes in a grant application to the National Rifle Association. School district policy prohibited advocating for political agendas, and Cournoyer acknowledged she included the statement to secure the $14,851 in equipment.
