Chris Flanagan

State Representative Christopher Flanagan (D-Dennis) is currently facing federal criminal charges involving allegations of embezzlement, fraud, and tax misconduct. As of July 2026, he remains in office, though he is not seeking reelection. In April 2025, Flanagan was indicted on five counts of wire fraud and one count of falsifying records. A superseding indictment filed in May 2026 expanded these charges to include eight counts of wire fraud, one count of money laundering, one count of falsification of records, and three counts of filing false tax returns. Prosecutors allege that from 2021 to 2023, while serving as executive officer of the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod, Flanagan embezzled over $44,000. He is accused of using these funds for personal expenses, including mortgage payments, credit card debt, menswear, home appliances, and psychic services, as well as funneling $10,000 into his political campaign to conceal the source of the money. He allegedly submitted falsified expense reports and created a fictitious persona, "Jeanne Louise," to deceive both his employer and the Office of Campaign and Political Finance (OCPF) regarding campaign spending and business reimbursements. Separately, in 2024, the OCPF fined Flanagan $15,000 for campaign finance violations related to the "Jeanne Louise" alias and a misleading 2022 campaign mailer. Flanagan has pleaded not guilty to all federal charges.
