Christine Drazan

Christine Drazan, a Republican state senator and former House Minority Leader, has not been the subject of any criminal indictments, convictions, or proven corruption allegations throughout her career. Publicly reported controversies involving Drazan include: In August 2019, an Oregon Health Authority employee filed a human resources complaint alleging Drazan was verbally aggressive and yelled during a phone call regarding a lapse in her child’s health insurance coverage. The employee alleged Drazan attempted to use her position to bypass eligibility rules. Drazan denied abusing her power, stating she was acting as a parent to ensure her family had access to care. Drazan provided a handwritten note of apology to the employee, which was accepted. During her tenure as House Minority Leader (2019–2021), Drazan faced reports regarding her management style, with some staff members alleging she was demeaning or bullying in private, claims she has characterized as baseless. Drazan’s political tactics have also been subjects of controversy, specifically her leadership of Republican legislative walkouts in 2020 to deny a quorum and block Democratic initiatives, which critics argued hindered state government functions. Additionally, she was involved in a dispute over state redistricting with then-Speaker Tina Kotek, during which Drazan accused Kotek of acting in bad faith.
