On June 16, 2026, Brazil's Supreme Federal Court unanimously convicted Eduardo Bolsonaro of coercion against the judiciary. Justices sentenced him to four years and two months in a semi-open prison regime, ordered him to pay a fine of approximately 150,000 reais, and declared him ineligible for public office for eight years. He was also ordered to lose his position as a federal police clerk. The court found he lobbied U.S. authorities to impose sanctions on Brazilian Supreme Court justices and pressure the judiciary to influence his father’s coup-related trial. His defense argued his actions were protected speech and challenged the court's notification methods, but these arguments were rejected. Separately, in October 2025, the Lower House Ethics Panel dismissed a complaint that sought to revoke his parliamentary mandate for his activities in the United States. Multiple other ethics representations against him have been filed, focusing on his criticisms of democratic institutions.
