Edwin Brant Frost IV is the founder of the now-defunct Georgia-based firm First Liberty Building and Loan. He is currently facing federal criminal charges for orchestrating a Ponzi scheme that defrauded approximately 300 investors of at least $140 million between 2021 and July 2025.
Frost pleaded guilty to a felony wire fraud charge in federal court. He admitted to misappropriating over $5 million of investor funds for personal expenditures, including over $2 million in credit card bills, $570,000 in political contributions, $230,000 for vacation home rentals, and over $140,000 in jewelry.
In a separate civil action, the Securities and Exchange Commission sued Frost in July 2025, resulting in an asset freeze and the appointment of a receiver to recover funds for victims. Frost consented to the court-ordered relief without admitting or denying the SEC's allegations. As of August 2026, he remains in federal custody pending sentencing.
