Edwin Brant Frost IV, the former owner and president of the Georgia-based First Liberty Building & Loan, LLC, was the architect of a $140 million Ponzi scheme that operated from at least 2014 through July 2025. Frost defrauded approximately 300 investors by soliciting funds for bridge loans while using new investments to pay existing participants and fund over $5 million in personal expenses, including luxury jewelry, a Patek Philippe watch, vacations, and political contributions.
In July 2025, the SEC filed a civil lawsuit against Frost, resulting in a permanent injunction, an asset freeze, and the appointment of a receiver. In May 2026, Frost pleaded guilty to wire fraud in federal court. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and has agreed to pay full restitution to victims. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 14, 2026.
