Ellen Weaver

Ellen Weaver, the current Superintendent of Education for South Carolina, has faced no charges, indictments, or criminal convictions. During her 2022 campaign, she was subject to controversy regarding her eligibility because she lacked a master’s degree, a requirement for the office under state law. Weaver enrolled in a program at Bob Jones University and completed the degree in approximately eight months. This led the South Carolina Democratic Party to request an investigation by state and federal authorities into alleged fraud and conspiracy involving the university’s accreditation and certification processes. The South Carolina Attorney General’s office declined to pursue the request, characterizing it as a political distraction.
