Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales were U.S. Representatives who resigned from Congress in April 2026 amid bipartisan efforts to expel them for alleged sexual misconduct. Eric Swalwell, a former Democrat from California, faced allegations from multiple women, including former staff, of sexual harassment, inappropriate behavior, and sexual assault. One woman alleged he drugged, raped, and choked her in 2018; he has categorically denied all allegations of sexual assault. He was under a House Ethics Committee investigation for alleged sexual misconduct and for unfairly dispensing special favors to staff. Additionally, he was accused by other former staff of sending sexually explicit text messages, including requests for nude photos. He dropped his 2026 re-election bid in March and resigned from Congress effective April 14, 2026.
