Farhad Hossain

Farhad Hossain, former Minister of Public Administration of Bangladesh, faces several legal challenges and corruption allegations: Criminal Charges: He was arrested in September 2024 in connection with a murder case involving the killing of a garment worker during the July 2024 anti-discrimination student movement. Corruption Allegations: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed cases against Hossain and his wife, Syeda Monalisa Islam, for acquiring assets beyond their known sources of income. Investigations revealed he allegedly possessed assets worth approximately Tk 1.11 crore above his legal income and engaged in suspicious transactions exceeding Tk 6 crore across 12 bank accounts. His wife is also accused of amassing unexplained wealth totaling Tk 80 lakh. A court has ordered the seizure of their income tax records for these investigations. Other Controversies: In June 2025, a court imposed a travel ban on Hossain and his wife following allegations of money laundering and the purchase of properties in Canada using illicit funds. Previously, in the lead-up to elections, he received a show-cause notice from an Election Commission inquiry committee for violating the electoral code of conduct by using government vehicles and police protection during campaign activities.
