Farhad Hossain

Farhad Hossain, a former Bangladeshi minister of public administration and member of the Awami League, faces multiple legal challenges following the government's fall in August 2024. He was arrested on September 15, 2024, in connection with the death of a garment worker during the anti-discrimination student movement. He is also a primary accused in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act regarding attacks on protestors in Meherpur. Regarding financial misconduct, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Hossain and his wife, Syeda Monalisa Islam, in November 2025 for acquiring assets exceeding their known income. Investigators allege Hossain possessed illicit assets worth Tk 1.11 crore and engaged in suspicious transactions totaling over Tk 6.54 crore across 12 bank accounts. In April 2026, a court ordered the seizure of the couple's tax files following allegations that they acquired assets beyond known income, with claims that his wife acquired assets worth Tk 94.05 crore. A travel ban was imposed on the couple in June 2026 due to concerns they might flee the country amid investigations into their alleged purchase of property in Canada with illicit funds.
