Greg Lindberg

Greg Lindberg is a businessman and former insurance executive convicted of massive federal fraud and bribery. From 2016 to 2019, Lindberg orchestrated a $2 billion scheme to siphon funds from his insurance companies to finance a lavish lifestyle, including private jets, a yacht, and millions in personal payments. He deceived state regulators by concealing the true financial condition of his companies and "forgiving" over $125 million in loans he had taken from them. Separately, Lindberg attempted to bribe North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey with millions in campaign contributions to remove a senior regulator overseeing his firms. Causey alerted the FBI and recorded the interactions. Legal outcomes include: Bribery Case: Following a 2020 conviction and an appeal that overturned the verdict, Lindberg was convicted again in a 2024 retrial. Fraud Case: In November 2024, Lindberg pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Sentencing: On May 26, 2026, Lindberg was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison. He was also ordered to pay $1.6 billion in restitution in the federal case and $526 million in a separate state civil case regarding insurance fraud.
