Since his April 2022 ouster, Pakistani authorities have filed over 200 cases against Imran Khan. Key developments include: Toshakhana Cases: In August 2023, Khan was convicted of corrupt practices for concealing details of state gifts and sentenced to three years. In January 2025, he and his wife were sentenced to further terms (10 and 7 years) and fined over 16 million rupees for a separate "Toshakhana 2" case involving a luxury jewelry set. Earlier 14-year sentences in a similar case were overturned due to lack of evidence. Al-Qadir Trust Case: Khan and his wife were sentenced to 14 and 7 years respectively in January 2025 for illicitly transferring 190 million pounds and accepting land and funds from a private developer. Cipher Case: Khan was sentenced to 10 years in January 2024 for leaking state secrets, but was acquitted on appeal in June 2024. Unlawful Marriage Case: Khan and his wife were sentenced to seven years in February 2024 for violating Islamic marriage laws but were acquitted in July 2024. Other Allegations: The Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified Khan in 2022 for making false asset declarations. He also faces ongoing terrorism and rioting charges related to May 9, 2023, protests, for which he has been acquitted in some instances and remains in legal proceedings for others. Additionally, he is booked in a prohibited funding case regarding alleged illegal foreign donations. Khan maintains these charges are politically motivated.
