Jair Bolsonaro

Jair Bolsonaro served as President of Brazil from 2019 to 2022. He has faced numerous legal proceedings and controversies throughout his career, often citing political persecution. In September 2025, Brazil’s Supreme Court sentenced Bolsonaro to 27 years and 3 months in prison for orchestrating a coup attempt to overturn the 2022 election results. He was also barred from public office. Previously, the Superior Electoral Court rendered him ineligible for office until 2030 for abusing power to discredit the voting system. Other allegations include falsifying COVID-19 vaccination records, misappropriating luxury jewelry gifted by Saudi Arabia, and leading a digital militia to spread disinformation. Earlier in his career, he was acquitted by the Superior Military Court in 1988 following a 1987 investigation into alleged bomb plots, despite a Federal Police handwriting analysis contradicting his defense. Bolsonaro denies all allegations.
