Jason Belton has been subject to several legal and criminal proceedings throughout his career. In 2007, he was arrested for involvement in a drive-by shooting and received six months of probation for criminal conspiracy. In 2012, while serving as a fire lieutenant, Belton was charged with grand theft for allegedly misappropriating at least $7,500 from his union; he resigned from his position and sought intervention in lieu of conviction. In 2018, Belton was arrested in South Carolina and subsequently indicted on federal drug trafficking charges related to a nationwide distribution ring. This case was transferred to California, where it remains active. Additionally, a 1990 D.C. Court of Appeals decision, Belton v. United States, documents the conviction of a David Belton for cocaine distribution and assault, though this is a separate legal matter.
