Jeremy Trebas

In 2018, while serving as a Montana State Representative, Jeremy Trebas was issued an order of contempt by a judge for attending a closed youth-in-need-of-care court proceeding without permission. Trebas admitted he knew he was violating the law by attending the hearing, stating he intended to gain firsthand knowledge of the system; the judge informed him that he could attend future proceedings if he requested permission, and no further penalties were imposed. Additionally, Trebas faced public criticism for his 2023 introduction of Senate Bill 195, which sought to exempt certain structures from fire sprinkler requirements; critics accused him of self-dealing because the bill would have benefited a commercial building he owned. The bill was subsequently amended to remove that language. Further controversies involve reports of his social media activity, including the use of slurs and misgendering a colleague, as well as his political stances on local government control and public health policy.
