Jo Rae Perkins is a politician and perennial U.S. Senate candidate from Oregon. Regarding legal and financial history, she filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 1997 and again in 2009 to discharge over $335,000 in liabilities. Following the 2009 filing, the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board revoked her certification in 2010 for violating its Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility; Perkins did not participate in those proceedings. Additionally, she was fired from an investment company in 2008 for violating company policy.
In December 2005, Perkins was arrested and charged with harassment and hindering prosecution after physically blocking police from entering her home to search for her son, who had evaded officers following a traffic stop. She pleaded no contest to hindering prosecution, paid a $200 fine, and completed 40 hours of community service; the harassment charge was dropped, and the case was dismissed after one year of probation.
Politically, Perkins has faced controversy for her vocal support of the QAnon conspiracy theory and for promoting unsubstantiated claims regarding the 2020 presidential election. She attended the January 6, 2021, protest at the U.S. Capitol but stated she did not enter the building.
