Senator Jose Jinggoy Estrada faces ongoing legal proceedings regarding his involvement in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam and a separate, recent flood control corruption scandal. Regarding the PDAF scam, Estrada was acquitted of plunder on January 19, 2024, by the Sandiganbayan. While he was briefly convicted of one count of direct bribery and two counts of indirect bribery in 2024, the Sandiganbayan reversed these convictions on August 22, 2024, and upheld this acquittal on November 27, 2024. However, 11 counts of graft remain active against him. In October 2025, the Supreme Court allowed the Sandiganbayan to proceed with these 11 graft cases, rejecting Estrada's argument that they were absorbed by his acquitted plunder case. In a separate matter, the Department of Justice recommended in May 2026 that the Office of the Ombudsman file charges of plunder, graft, direct bribery, and corruption of public officials against Estrada. These allegations stem from a corruption investigation into flood control projects, where investigators allege that budget allocations were manipulated and public officials received 30% kickbacks. On May 26, 2026, the Ombudsman confirmed it was set to file these charges with the Sandiganbayan. Estrada has denied the allegations, citing official legislative records to refute claims of budget manipulation.
