Kweon Seong-dong, a five-term South Korean lawmaker and former People Power Party (PPP) floor leader, was stripped of his parliamentary seat on July 16, 2026, after the Supreme Court finalized a two-year prison sentence for violating the Political Funds Act. Kweon was convicted of accepting 100 million won in illegal political funds from a Unification Church official in January 2022. The funds were provided to influence government favors for the church during the term of former President Yoon Suk Yeol. Kweon was arrested in September 2025 and indicted in October 2025.
