Michael Misick, the former Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, resigned on March 23, 2009, following a Commission of Inquiry that identified systemic corruption and dishonesty within his administration, specifically regarding the sale of Crown land. Following an international investigation, Misick was arrested in Brazil in 2012 and extradited in 2014. On February 4, 2026, the Supreme Court of the Turks and Caicos Islands convicted him of three counts of bribery related to government land and development deals. On May 29, 2026, he was sentenced to an effective term of four years and 26 days in prison.
