Saulius Skvernelis

Saulius Skvernelis, a former Prime Minister of Lithuania and current member of the Seimas, is currently the subject of an ongoing major corruption investigation involving the State Plant Service. In April 2026, Lithuanian prosecutors officially charged Skvernelis with bribery after the Seimas voted to lift his legal immunity. Prosecutors allege that while serving as Speaker of the Seimas, Skvernelis accepted at least 51,000 euros in cash bribes between January and November 2025. The funds were allegedly funneled through his former advisor, Agnė Silickienė, in monthly installments of 5,000 to 10,000 euros. Investigators suspect the bribes were paid in exchange for political favoritism, including securing official positions at the State Plant Service for members of an organized group. Skvernelis has denied all allegations, labeling the legal measures against him as psychological pressure. As part of the proceedings, a court ordered him to wear an electronic ankle tag, and his property in Palanga was seized in May 2026. Previously, in 2019, Skvernelis faced an ethics investigation regarding allegations that he mixed public and private interests when the government allocated 300,000 euros to pave the street leading to his home. The Chief Official Ethics Commission closed that probe after six months due to a lack of evidence.
