Shannon Taylor, the Commonwealth's Attorney for Henrico County, Virginia, has been the subject of several reported controversies and criticisms during her career: In 2014, Taylor’s office faced public backlash for pursuing felony charges against eight high school students involved in a school prank. Critics argued the charges were excessively punitive and highlighted broader concerns regarding racial disparities in the county’s criminal referral practices. In 2016, following an investigation into Joe Morrissey for exposing himself to a legal client, Taylor publicly stated that while Morrissey’s actions were wrong and unethical, she would not bring criminal charges against him.
