Thomas P. DiNapoli has not been charged with or convicted of any crimes or corruption during his tenure as New York State Comptroller. In 2010, the New York Attorney General’s office explicitly cleared DiNapoli of involvement in a pension fund pay-to-play scandal that led to the resignation and conviction of his predecessor, Alan Hevesi.
In February 2024, the New York State Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government approved reimbursement for a trip DiNapoli took to Israel sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York. While the commission approved the reimbursement, it expressed concern that the sponsored trip could create the appearance of improper influence, given DiNapoli’s official role in investing state pension funds in Israel Bonds.
Additionally, in 2007, DiNapoli was involved in a legal dispute, Dinallo v. DiNapoli, regarding his constitutional and statutory authority to audit the New York State Insurance Department Liquidation Bureau.
