Xavier Becerra has not been charged with, indicted for, or convicted of any crimes. Regarding the federal investigation into campaign finance, federal prosecutors have identified Becerra as a victim whose dormant campaign account was siphoned by his former staff. In May 2026, his former adviser Dana Williamson pleaded guilty to bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax charges; former chief of staff Sean McCluskie and lobbyist Greg Campbell also pleaded guilty to fraud.
